Hoodoo Divination

It is always a good idea to check the cards before you go ahead and cast a spell. The spread above will give you some clues if you should or shouldn't, as well as what you can do to raise/channel energy and what the outcome might be.

2-Bad intentions for casting the spell
3-The effects of casting the spell
4-The outcome of casting the spell
I do use a quintessenial card to get an overall feel of the reading.
A quintessnial card is simply adding up all of the numbered cards that are in the lay out,
Courts are zero the Fool could be zero or 22 depending on what you're comfortable with.

The Magical Spell Tarot Spread

Before you start the reading,  separate the cards into Majors and Minors. The reason is that for the first position you use a Major Arcana card and for the second position a Minor Arcana card. For the following three cards, you mix all 78 cards together before laying them out.  http://wizardstarot.com/picts/horseshoe.jpg

The Major Arcana card in POSITION ONE basically tells you whether or not to go ahead...

The Fool - yes and there is unlimited potential if you act in trust
The Magician - yes and you need to put your skills to good use in the process
The High Priestess - yes and you need to cast the spell by the light of the Moon
The Empress - yes and you should cast the spell in Nature
The Emperor - no, this needs a pragmatic, non-magickal solution
The Hierophant - no, this needs a more conventional solution
The Lovers - yes and think carefully about your words
The Chariot - green light but be sure to leave your ego out of it
Strength - yes and more energy will be available through sex magick
The Hermit - no, you need to meditate some more on this first
The Wheel of Fortune - yes, now is the right time to act and there is a lot of energy available
Justice - yes, as long as there are no legal consequences
The Hanged Man - no, there is a need for clarity or a new perspective on things first. forget about it for now
Death - yes, deep transformation is possible now
Temperance - go ahead but make sure that you don't overreach. be very precise and don't bite off more than you can chew
The Devil - no, you are not in tune with the Highest Good for All
The Tower - no, the Universe will throw spanners in the works
The Star - yes absolutely, you are doing humanity a service
The Moon - only if you are free of fear. Sleep on it one more night and allow your dream to guide you which course to take.
The Sun - yes, you are strong and there is a lot of energy available for this working
Judgement - yes but beware that you will not be able to go back to how things were
The World - yes, you were meant to do this!

The Minor Arcna card in POSITION TWO tells you which medium to use/charge:

Pentacles - An action oriented spell, i.e. Hot Footing, or Banishing, or Bend Over, or Commanding, etc. Somethign *practical*
Cups - Bath or series of baths (look to the number on the card to see how many you might need)
Wands - Candle spell
Swords - Prayer or altar working

The THIRD CARD tells you what your own energy levels are like and the FOURTH CARD tells you how to raise your energy. Do you need to rest or take some exercise? Should you phone a friend? Perhaps you need to detach from the situation?

The FIFTH CARD tells you the outcome. If card one promises success and you still don't like the outcome, you can pull a 'tweak card' and another outcome card. One final tweak round can be done. Do not pull more than nine cards total. If you're still not happy, something about this reading was off. Wait another day or two and have a do-over with the cards.

The Spell Checker Tarot Spread (source http://receipt-book.blogspot.com/2008/09/tarot-spread-spell-checker.html)

This is a great tarot spread to use before casting any spell. It will tell you the probable outcome of your work allowing you to make changes, if necessary. It can also be used to determine the likely outcome of any plan of action.

To use this spread, choose a card to represent yourself and place it on the table before you. Next, shuffle the cards while thinking of your question. I usually say or think something to the effect of "Please provide me with information pertaining to the spell I intend to cast which will be of assistance to me." When you are done, lay the cards out as they are shown in the diagram above.

1. The Past

This card usually describes what has occurred in the past that precipitated you to cast the spell in question.

2. The Present

This card describes the current state of affairs concerning the situation described in card number one.

3. Your Goal

This card describes the goal of your spell. This is perhaps one of the most important cards in the spread as it will often reveal your true motivation despite what card number one may indicate.

For example, you or someone you know may be the victim of a bully. Whereas you may think you're casting a spell to protect yourself or another from that bully, this card may reveal that your true intention is revenge and that perhaps you should reevaluate your intended spell or ritual.

4. The Near Future

This card describes the initial effects of your spell. Again, this is a very important card because it can often tell you how long it will be before you see results, if at all, and whether or not they will last. It may also reveal any circumstances or consequences that you have not accounted for and which may only make the original situation worse.

5. The Best You Can Hope For

This card describes the most you can hope to achieve in the situation at hand and often represents a reality check for the individual. This card may be telling you that you have unrealistic expectations and that perhaps the answer you are seeking lies not in the casting of a spell or performing of a ritual, but in some other means.

6. The Outcome

This card describes the final outcome and far-reaching consequences of the spell. Again it may also give you an indication of the severity or consistency of the problem that you are attempting to address. Sometimes a spell will have great results initially, depending on the situation and type of spell, but later break down naturally (classic examples are bindings and banishings) or can be broken by others.
